"Muninn" Anna Aragon

"Muninn" Anna Aragon. Reductive woodcut.  16.5 x 11". Not framed.

In Norse mythology, Huginn (from Old Norse "thought") and Muninn (Old Norse "memory" or "mind") are a pair of ravens that fly all over the earth, Midgard, and bring information to the god Odin. In my work the raven represents a guardian or watcher who keeps an eye out for my well being. Ravens are my favorite bird.

The representation of Muninn is done by way of a reductive woodcut, in which layers in a wood block are carved away between each color printed. The print will pass through the press many times, once for each color.

Anna Aragon's work has been published in the international printmaking journal The Hand. She is currently surviving with her husband, three dogs, and countless critters in the mountains of Northeastern New Mexico.
