This artwork was created by London-based street artist Jelly at a Jam for Gaza fundraiser event hosted by Silk Road Music, Stop the War Coalition and the Temple of Art and Music. The proceeds of this auction will be donated to Free Gaza Circus, a not-for-profit charity founded in 2018 by a group of circus artists and activists in Gaza to provide skills and art therapy to children and youth who have been impacted by the constant attacks and wars carried out on the Gaza strip.
About the artist
Jelly is a London based street artist known for painting feminine figures with iconic supersized eyelashes and positive messages of love such as You Are Enough. Her vibrant work has graced the walls of London, Bristol, Mexico City, Australia and Brazil. Jelly's artwork promotes a holistic way of life as well as highlighting social injustice such as Grenfell, MMIWG (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls), Palestine, Hong Kong and the Congo. As Nina Simone said; "An artist's duty, as far as I'm concerned, is to reflect the times".
About the initiative
Free Gaza Circus is a not-for-profit that engages with children and youth in a creative learning experience and providing a safe space for them to learn the art of the circus through lessons, workshops and residencies. Their aim is to spread circus culture in Gaza by highlighting its positive role in social development.
"Free Gaza Circus is a place for emotional
discharge, to support and to encourage the youth in Gaza, throughout their
journey of self-improvement. It is a place where we can all work through our
traumas from the constant bombardment carried out on the Gaza strip in a
productive, safe and creative environment...that could eventually help us all
become active and constructive members of our society" Muhammad Ayman – founder of Free Gaza Circus
