After winning the Tastee Talent contest at age 17 and still a resident at the Alpha Boys School, Winston Foster went on to excite reggae crowds all over Jamaica and the rest of the world. His ability to engage with music and crowds live in the session made Yellowman and the soundsystem he workd for, Aces from St. Thomas, very popular.

This led to Yellowman's first Grammy nomination in 1985 and a recording contract with CBS Records. Not long after he was diagnosed with jaw cancer and was given six months to live. This was in 1986. One more cancer diagnosis, one more Grammy nomination and 30-plus years later Yellowman is one of Jamaica's busiest performers around the world.
