Transitions by Howard Ikemoto

Transitions was painted by Howard Ikemoto in 1992. It is oil on canvas, with unpainted wrapped edges 1½” deep. Unframed, this painting is ready to hang. It is 42” w x 66” h, and was donated by the Ikemoto family.

The painting speaks to the many transitions that Ikemoto has experienced in his life. “A native Californian, Ikemoto spent 34 years at Cabrillo College in Aptos, reminding people how to rediscover a child’s inhibition with a pencil or paintbrush in their hands. His long tenure at the college is legendary for his respectful and illuminative teaching style.”

About five years ago, he received a diagnosis of dementia and is currently in a memory-care facility in Southern California.

We would like to remember the incredible contribution Ikemoto made to the community of artists in Santa Cruz County, by naming a scholarship fund in his honor at Cabrillo College. Pajaro Valley Arts is proud to display this piece in our gallery though the course of the auction. We have shown Howard’s work, as well as generations of his students’ work. We are a family of artists, students, educators and art fanatatics, who want to honor a man who enriched our lives.

All proceeds will go to the Howard Ikemoto Scholarship fund.
