Description
Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, the neo-classical French artist, painted this masterpiece toward the end of his life. Pauline de Broglie sat for the artist’s final commission in 1853; the portrait was commissioned by the sitter’s husband, Albert de Broglie the French Prime Minister. Ingres captures the shy reserve of his subject while illuminating, through seamless brushwork, the material quality of her many fine attributes. She was highly intelligent and widely known for her beauty. Gold frame 10 x 12” by Poulen Galleries, Pasadena
