In 1986, Danny Emerman and Chef Alessandro Prosperi opened their first restaurant, Barocco, in an obscure corner of Tribeca -- bringing their take on simple Tuscan cuisine to the downtown 80's Manhattan art and fashion world to great success. Urged by clientele to create a second location in the then-gritty West Chelsea area, and supported by a handful of important galleries that were just beginning to take root in the area-- among them Barbara Gladstone, Matthew Marks, Andrea Rosen, Luhring and Augustine, Metro Pictures -- they opened BOTTINO in the summer of 1997 in a century-old hardware store, which legend had it had once been used as a front for gun running to the Irish Republican Army.

Taking its name from the Italian "Botte" for wine barrel, Bottino was designed by architect Thomas Leeser, repurposing the original wood shelving to feature an extensive collection of boutique Italian wines, and furnishing the dining spaces with recycled Eames furniture. Bottino was refurbished in 2017 on its 20th anniversary.

Bottino offers unique private dining settings and hosts innumerable gallery dinners, showers, intimate weddings, birthdays and corporate dinners.

The adjacent takeout store offers freshly made sandwiches on artisan breads as well as salads, homemade baked goods, and offers delivery and catering options.
