Description

Highly Unique Wine Selection from Napa Valley chosen by RGALT Board Member during travels.   Ballentine Vineyards 2012 Block 9 Zinfandel $45 This family-owned winery dates from 1906.  It belongs to the “old guard” in the Napa Valley that survived Prohibition.   Vincent Arroyo Family Winery 2017 Zinfandel $35 Started in 1974, they have been named #1 winery in California by House Beautiful and #1 vineyard in the U.S. by Travel and Leisure.  They are part of the modern wave of small, family-owned and family-maintained wineries in the Napa Valley.   Rosa d’Oro Vineyards Primitivo $25 This tiny winery is on the Kelsey Bench District in Lake County, north of the Napa Valley.  It was founded in 2001 and dedicated to producing Italian varietal wines.  The vineyard is small and sometimes does not produce a sufficient harvest to merit bottling as a vintaged wine. When this happens Nick keeps it in the barrels, then blends it with the next year’s production of the same variety.  In such a case the wine must be labelled without a vintage year, but still meets the legal criteria for a named varietal.  Tribidrag is the original name for the Croatian grape variety that was renamed Primitivo in Italy in the 18th century and was brought to the U.S. in 1829 and the Napa Valley in 1850, where it came to be called Zinfandel.  That Primitivo and Zinfandel are identical was established by botanical evidence in 1972 and confirmed by DNA analysis in 1993.     Must pay for shipping.
