Watercolour on Acid Free paper, 2017
Framed, 45 1/2 cm x 35 1/2 cm
“Late Again?” Is a small, loosely painted watercolour image of a rather beautiful woman in fascinator and feather boa, possibly awaiting her tardy lover or preoccupied with her own distant thoughts, such that she cares not a jot if she’s late.
There are both figurative and abstract passages in the painting, a limited palette extending into a wide range of delicate tonal values whilst the slash of green to left enhances flashes of a similar green in the boa. Highly animated brushstrokes in her attire create a lively contrast between the soft skin tone washes.
The work is matted and framed by the artist to emphasize the subtle reds and rich greens for additional resonance.
