A Treasure Hunt on Bluff Island

Dig for treasure on the most secluded and private part of the Smith Island Complex - the Capel's private land on Bluff Island/East Beach.  This is the perfect family adventure.

The treasure will consist of one silver piece-of-eight from a famous Spanish ship wreck.  This will be a clue-based hunt that will be an afternoon well-spent with your family.

This "Eight Reals" silver coin, the size of an American silver dollar, will date 1782.

It was part of a shipment of bullion silver meant to bolster the paper currency in Spanish held New Orleans.

When the treasure ship sank in January 1784 all the silver treasure and all the souls aboard the ship were lost.

Charles III, King of Spain, was so upset by this loss that he sold New Orleans and all the Louisiana territory to France.

Two years later, Thomas Jefferson, President of the United States, bought the Louisiana Territory from France for three dollars per acre and doubled the size of our country!

The treasure will also contain other silver coins, many coins from other lands, and a shipwreck surprise or two.

Treasure hunt will be led by and arranged with the legendary Mr. Capel. Strollers not advised - most of the treasure hunt will be on sand.

Must be used before June 30, 2019.
