Two 15th Century Prints - Piero della Francesca

One of the great artists of the early Italian Renaissance, Piero della Francesca painted religious works that are marked by their simple serenity and clarity.

Madonna della Misericordia on burlap approximately 22" x 18". The painting is one of his earliest works. The central panel portrays the mercifully protective gesture of the Madonna enfolding her followers in her mantle.

St. Guilano on burlap approximately 22" x 18".

Piero della Francesca returned to Sansepolcro where, in 1454 he signed a contract for this polyptych in the church of Sant'Agostino. St.Julian is the only fragment that has survived of Piero's fresco decoration of the church of Sant'Agostino in Borgo San Sepolcro.
