For five years Abby wrote the “Preludes” column about young people and money for the Sunday New York Times Business section. She is also a regular contributor to the Health, Style, Business and Education sections of the New York Times, often writing the “Vows” column in the Wedding section. Her work has been published in an array of newspapers, magazines and web sites, including ABC News, Psychology Today, Time, New York, The Village Voice, The International Herald Tribune, Self, Marie Claire, More, Glamour, Redbook and the now-defunct Mademoiselle.

Her book “Teenage Waistland: A Former Fat Kid Weighs in on Living Large, Losing Weight and How Parents Can (and Can’t) Help”, was published by Public Affairs.and was optioned for television by SONY pictures. It was nominated for the Books for a Better Life award from the MS Society. Ellin is also the winner of Arlene Award for her New York Times piece “When the Fine Print Applies to You,” on Lasik regret, and the Sword of Hope Award from the American Cancer Society for her piece “Confronting Cancer” in the Boston Tab.

Ellin received her BS in Communications from the Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College, in Boston, and a Master’s in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University. But her greatest claim to fame is naming “Karamel Sutra” ice cream for Ben and Jerry's.
