Rainbow Connection

Medium: Kiln-formed Glass, Mixed Media

I have very fond childhood memories of playing in what felt like the world’s largest sandbox that my parents had created in our back yard! Constructed with telephone poles, it required a dump truck for the sheer volume of sand used to make it! I still feel like the kid in that sandbox when I work with glass, which is made up almost entirely of liquid sand! It’s an exciting place to dwell; this intersection where creativity and curiosity, art and science, intersect. It’s where I always end up, no matter what medium I work in. Questions always leading to more questions demanding further investigation. Nothing demands one’s attention quite like a rainbow does when you see it. There is an awe inspiring, divine nature to the orderly way water bends light waves to form this showy display. White light goes in the water drop and emerges as this glorious arc of spectral color! As Paul Klee put it, “Color is the place where our brain and the universe meet.” I would like to take it a step further and say, “Color is a soul stirring place where our brain meets the creator of the universe and we are humbled.”
