Janie Geiser is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice includes video, performance, and installation. Her work is known for its investigation of the emotional power of inanimate objects. ”Geiser gives voice to the reaches of the unconscious, pointing to the abandoned splendor that exists prior to the rules of society and language.”  (---Holly Willis)

 One of the pioneers of the renaissance of American avant-garde puppet theater, Geiser creates innovative, hypnotic works that integrate puppetry and projection.  Her performances have been presented at St Ann’s Warehouse, Redcat, the Public Theater and other venues. Geiser’s films have been presented at the Whitney, MOMA, LACMA, Redcat, the Wexner Center, the Centre Pompidou, and at festivals nationally and internationally. Her film The Red Book was selected for the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, and her films are in MOMA’s permanent collection. Geiser has received numerous grants and fellowships including a Creative Capital grant, Obie Award, and a 2016 Doris Duke Artist Award. Geiser is Co-Artistic Director of Automata and is on the faculty of CalArts School of Theater.
