The Eames House

Charles and Ray Eames designed and built the Eames House in 1949.  Known as Case Study House No. 8, it was one of roughly two-dozen homes built under the Case Study House Program that was spearheaded by John Entenza, the publisher of Arts & Architecture magazine.

The Eameses moved into their home on Christmas Eve 1949, and lived there for the rest of their lives.  The interior, with its collection of furniture and objects, remains very much the way it was during Charles and Ray's lifetimes.  Now a National Historic Landmark, the Eames House is an iconographic structure visited by people from all over the world.  Its charm and appeal is perhaps best expressed by Charles' own words, "At all times love and discipline have led to a beautiful environment and a good life."
