Michael Broadbent, MW, the well-known authority on Burgundy wines, awarded the Pommard 1990 vintage five stars, his highest evaluation, calling it a “superb vintage.” Clive Coates, MW, rated the vintage 18.5 points on a 20-point scale. The Pézerolles vineyard is one of 28 premiers crus in Pommard. Its terroir is a combination of limestone and clays, producing “the typical fulness and sturdiness which is the Pommard character.” Hubert de Montille, the winemaker, initially owned only 8
hectares of Pommard and Volnay vineyards which he tended as an avocation while maintaining his legal practice.
