“Thumbprint portrait of Kindergarteners”

This piece was inspired by the work of Cheryl Sorg. Cheryl is based in California and creates custom fingerprint portraits out of hundreds of tiny pieces of tape. She also makes literary fingerprint portraits and many other types of tape art. The Kindergarteners’ art piece is a combination of Sorg’s two types of fingerprint portraits as it employs both the bright colors and letters. Each Kindergartener chose the color they were drawn to the most and painted a section of the thumbprint using tempera sticks. Words that the teachers used to describe the children in their rooms this year were cut out from various magazines and affixed within the whorls and lines of the painted fingerprint. The matte board was then mounted to wooden strips, giving it a raised look when hung on a wall. This piece is a true reflection of the spirit and uniqueness of the Kindergarteners who created it.
