Remember in your own way those who fell during Would War II. With a certificate of authenticity signed by Major General Gordon C. Nash, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired), this sand is from the spot on Iwo Jima, Japan, where Medal of Honor recipient Gunnery Sergeant "Manila John" Basilone lost his life on February 19th, 1945. While commanding a machine gun platoon from 1st Battalion 27th Marines, he and his Marines were trapped on the beach by incessant enemy fire. He rallied his men and shouted, "Come on guys, we got to get these guns off the beach." At which time he rushed over the berm, exposing himself to deadly enemy fire.
