Kansas City-based singer/songwriter Barclay Martin has enjoyed more than a decade of a successful recording career highlighted by international travel. His current project, the Barclay Martin Ensemble, has produced numerous musical events, song commissions and professional recordings. Consistently nominated for awards, Martin has been named Best Local Musician by KC Magazine, and Best Local Entertainer by Ingram’s. His most recent album, Pools That Swell With the Rain, will release September 24, 2010. Martin’s music is best described by writer Kyle Koch: “The music of the Martin Ensemble reflects Martin's nomadic inclinations and global interests. Waltzing, acoustic odes to life, frequent bongo accompaniments, jazz rhythms, jumping salsa beats -- you could close your eyes and the Martin Ensemble takes you on a relaxing world tour." In 2009, Martin also wrote and released a soundtrack. He is the subject and musical director of a documentary depicting the programs of CFCA, a nonprofit that connects sponsors with the youth or elderly in 25 developing nations. Filmed in the Philippines, “Zamboanga: War, Poverty, Music,” culminates with Martin’s concert alongside thirteen sponsored children he worked with over a two-year period, in front of an audience of 10,000. The film is scheduled for release in late 2010. Throughout his career, Martin has been known for inspiring philanthropy in his fans, and his bandmates. With Pools That Swell With the Rain, he created a partnership with international nonprofit Water. org to assist in raising awareness and funds to drill wells, build sanitation systems and support educational programs in the Kyuso district of Kenya.
